Walk the Line--in Lovely New Shoes

Saturday was a great day.  My physical therapist told me of a wonderful shoe store where they do it the old-fashioned way.  They watch you walk, squat, and stand.  Then they ask you what "issues you have."  For me, it was bad knees, a recovering groin pull, and a weird bunion issue with my right foot.  THEN they bring out several shoes that should work.  THEN they put the shoes on you, watch you walk in them, offer advice, and generally help you to select the best shoe for your needs.  The franchise is called Metro Run&Walk (http://www.runwalklive.com/) and going there was a great experience.  I selected an Adidas shoe with a very roomy toebox, something my orthopedist had recommended.  As you can see from the photos, I am quite excited about my new shoes and various accoutrements that accompany them.  This afternoon Chad and I walked about 5 miles (note to self--next item to acquire:  pedometer) on Roosevelt Island.  We were shocked by the fact that you could no longer see the Kennedy Center from the back of island (due to leaves actually being ON the trees in May unlike in January when we were last there).  The people, dogs, and lizards were out in droves.

In any case, my new shoes are going to be awesome, and I'm looking forward to the official beginning of training, which Casey and I noted as Monday, June 15.  I'll be in New Mexico for my sister's wedding, so I may be walking in the sand at White Sands or strolling the streets of Ruidoso, looking like a tourist.  But in either case, I'll be wearing my new Adidas shoes with the roomy toebox!
